A Mother’s Wish List

7AM, I can hear the pitter patter down the hall to the bathroom.  I wait as I listen to the sounds of tooth brushing and silliness that goes with it. Then I’ll hear the pitter patter down the hall and see the silly face of my youngest one who’s ready to start the day.  This is his best time of the day, no competition with his brother, no screaming cause he has all the toys to himself and he is calm…..Things change when the older one is up and the give and take of being alive begins.

A Mother’s Wish list is usually very short…time for themselves, happy children, and a happy husband.  But, it goes deeper than that. All I want right now (and I think many of us want)  is to learn how to be a better mother.  A more patient one.  One who can take 5 deep breaths before responding to a tantruming 4-year-old.  One who never raises their voice and their children always respond on the first request…But, we want other things as well.  We want our children to grow up to be strong, able bodied, happy, healthy adults. I want them to think that they are “able to leap tall buildings in a single bound!”

These things we want, don’t just happen over night.  We can plant seeds along the way to help them be successful in life.  We can model the correct behavior.  We can talk to them constantly about the choices they make…So many things we can do, but, I think the most important thing to do is to show your love for them. I know from exerperience that if I have my loved ones supporting me and believing in me, that whatever I want to do is achievable.
