A time where fashion meets function…

SuuntoLumi_florette_150x150_v3_m56577569830783116As I approach the ripe old age of 30 I felt it was time to invest in a very grown up purchase – a wristwatch.  However,  I was faced with a bit of a challenge when looking into exactly what I wanted to adorn my wrist all day/every day – hip stylish watch with a fancy name brand or something that could be durable to the outdoor elements and possibly include a few helpful features.  Basically, it needed to be professional enough that I could wear it in my office without looking like a teenage boy, but also provide some extra benefits that would fit my lifestyle.

The Suunto Lumi finds the balance between style and function.  The sleek  face has drawn several compliments from people in my office, and when I was out camping a couple of weeks ago I was a hit for knowing exactly when the sun was going to rise and set.  Plus, I could outline our vertical feet! A few things to note though (on the not-so-awesome side): the compass feature seems slightly off and you can forget about getting an accurate read on the temperature (your body heats throws it off), but I suppose those are the compromises you have to make.

There have been several negative reviews about the band of the watch…I have had no problems whatsoever. It did require a jeweler to get it fit properly, but so far so good.  The salesman claimed they fixed that problem. Also, I must say that the large, digital display is awesome: very easy to read (for my aging eyes). And by large display, I mean large.  This watch is not for Twiggy.  You will need some meat behind it…otherwise it might get mistaken for a prison ankle band off Martha Stuart.

I have no clue what I need to use the “countdown” feature for…the example in the manual is a due date, but my thought on that is if I was having a child I would not need a watch to remind me it was happening.  That could just be me though.  It does have a timer as well, so perhaps that same consumer can use it to track contractions.  Lindsey, do you want to borrow my super techy watch on Oct. 5th?

So, for those of you looking for the fine balance of professional business woman and tough mountain chick…this one’s for you.

  1. I don’t wear a watch, but I don’t want to miss my due date… will you set your watch and call me on Oct 5 to remind me? :)
