Fit Family Goes Bike Racing!
What others are reading:
You always know a bike racing family when there are more bikes than cars — and no cars fit in the garage. I would take a picture, but, I might scare you all. If you can imagine, each person in the family owning at least two and not more than five (hubby), you might get an accurate number.
We (hubby and I) have been riding and racing for years. I started riding back in high school as a way to cross train for cross country and track. In college, I spent two years running cross country and two years bike racing. My husband is a veterinarian and he started riding as a way to manage the stress of vet school. Now that we have kids, our priorities have changed a little — although we still race, we’ve just tried to put more focus on the kids than on us.

Meet the youngest bike racer in the family, Ryan age 3. Already covered in Sponge Bob bandaids, if that is a sign of what’s coming, I’m sure I’ll have gray hair before I’m 40!

“Aren’t you so proud, Daddy?”, Bike Racer Number 2, Benjamin, age 5.

Yep, that’s me. Tongue hanging out. I was sprinting for some “swag” (bike racing terminology for free stuff!)– that included Hoo Ha Ride Glide, Cliff Shot Blocks and a new tire — pretty good for a $36 dollar entry fee!

Hubby. Category 3 Masters Racer.
In the end, we can only hope that through modeling, opportunity and encouragement our children will find their passions in fitness as well.
