Form Follows Function (… and fashion!)

Columbia_EddylineShirtYesterday was one of those beautiful fall days that make you long to be outside… and in my case fishing the Jackson River. However, work called and since I couldn’t be there I decided to write about one of my new favorite fishing shirts — the Eddyline™ Long Sleeve Shirt, by Columbia Sportswear.

I think it goes without saying that comfort is key when out on the water all day. Who wants to be distracted by uncomfortable gear when you could be aiming for that next ripple, rock and 19” (at least!) trout? Not me, that’s for sure!

That said, before I any further along with this post you should also know something about me. Not only do I take the above into consideration before making any purchases, I also do not believe in sacrificing appearance in order to have fun getting dirty. No one should… but that topic is better suited for another post, as this shirt meets all function and fashion requirements!

There are pockets, loops and buttons in all the right places, it’s comfortable, breathable and the material truly does dry quickly (Thank You Columbia!). However, that’s not all… the shirt has a built-in sun protection feature. I am a devout sunscreen carrier/user and admittedly I was both excited and a little skeptical that this could actually do the job. Let’s be honest, I wasn’t convinced anything other than a big black Hefty garbage bag could keep the rays out… but I was wrong! To date, I have not gotten burned while wearing my shirt.  I am not advocating going cold turkey on sunscreen, as I still carry 45 with me (everywhere), but this shirt has definitely cut down on the unwanted pink splotches that used to be practically unpreventable.

… I wonder if Columbia could install an “even tanning” feature?

The online description reads, “This shirt… loves to hang out in the same places the fish do.” And… since I do too, I’d say the Eddyline™ Long Sleeve Shirt is a perfect fit.

See ya on the water!
