Run and Recycle

What others are reading:

I recently was in the market for new running shoes. I actually go through athletic shoes pretty fast since I am so hard on them! I usually have three pairs lying around the house – one or two that I actually use, and another pair that I can’t bring myself to throw away even though they are worn into submission.

I always feel too bad to just toss them! I mean, they’re not good enough to pass on to someone else, but it’s very wasteful to just throw them away.shoe in snow

Well, even my tragically worn down running shoes can have a second purpose with Nike’s shoe recycling program. They breakdown old athletic shoes and use them in to build athletic surfaces (like running tracks).

And it’s easy to throw your shoes in the pile. Their website has a location finder so you can do it too.  Locate a drop-off near you here. The even better news is they take any athletic shoe, so if you have ‘em, recycle ‘em!

I go through about four or five pairs of running shoes a year and I love that I can do something good with them.

All shoes go to Heaven? I’d like to think so…
