Two Runners Are Better Than One

I have always been a solo runner. I have successfully trained for two marathons and numerous half marathons with only my “head movies” to keep me company. I don’t even use an ipod. Nope. I want to be alone with my thoughts and the sound of one set of feet pounding lightly tapping on the ground.

But since recently moving back to my hometown, my friend Susan and I have went on a few runs together. We have a lot of catching up to do and since we’re both busy girls, running is the best time to do it!

At first I was reluctant to share my solo running time with any visitors. I am a creature of habit and hate deviating from my little routine. But, we chatted so much on our first run together it was over before we even got full updates on each other’s lives!

Now I have come look forward to my runs with Susan more than any other. We talk, we joke, we get “encouraged” by strangers. It is so much more fun than going it alone. Plus, it’s the best way to catch up and de-stress without involving alcohol ;)

This weekend I realized I was a running buddy convert when I was disappointed that Susan had to work Saturday morning and couldn’t run with me.

I never thought I’d turn my favorite solo pastime into something I want to do with friends, but I am now convinced two runners are better than one!
